PNR107 Life Continuum Nursing
This course is designed to provide a basic overview of mental health concepts important to the Licensed Practical Nurse. Among the topics covered are anxiety, substance use, mood and personality disorders, schizophrenia, and mental health treatment modalities. An introduction to the DSM 5 will provide students with knowledge of the criteria required to efficiently diagnose patients with mental health disorders, while medications and treatments commonly used for various mental health conditions will also be identified. Simulation experiences will assist in the application of the nursing process to patients with various mental health disorders. Students use evidence-based knowledge with sensitivity to mental health population-based health disparities to provide holistic, culturally competent, patient-centered care for patients in diverse simulated scenarios.
