PNR101 Fundamentals of Practical Nursing
This course is designed to provide the student with a clear understanding of the many interrelated principles and tasks of the nursing profession. Students will be introduced to the role of the Licensed Practical Nurse through various practices, while beginning to establish a caring professional identity. This course also prepares the student to holistically care for society by using various frameworks including the nursing process along with integrating core values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Didactic, laboratory, simulation, and clinical practice experiences provide the framework for the student to incorporate the knowledge, skills, and attitudes foundational to nursing practice across the lifespan. The Nursing Skills and Simulation Laboratory are integral parts of learning. These structured settings provide the student opportunities to observe, practice, plan and demonstrate clinical skills. Correlated clinical experiences are offered in diverse health care settings, which serve as ideal placements for students to begin understanding and utilizing clinical judgment to order to provide effective individualized patient-centered care.
