Computer Aided Design Certificate (CAI)

This program provides the fundamentals of design and technical description in the field of Computer Aided Design. This 23 credit certificate program is available for incoming students, and is also well suited for individuals currently working in the manufacturing or architectural areas who wish to acquire competency. The student is trained in AutoCAD software products.

Requirement Notes

CPS100: May be fulfilled by challenge exam and 3 liberal arts elective credits.  Students with appropriate prerequisites are strongly recommended to substitute CPS101.

Liberal Arts Elective: Recommend  CMP102, or CMP150, or SPE102.

Program Note

Communication and Mathematics proficiency required to graduate.

Program Student Learner Outcomes
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Autodesk software including AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Prepare accurate engineering drawings showing the detail and method of assembly of machinery and mechanical devices.
  • Apply related academic skills (from mathematics, e.g.) to solve drafting and design problems.
  • Complete the Autodesk and SolidWorks Certification exams.
  • Use related soft (technical writing and communication) skills when solving drafting and design problem.
 
Occupational Skills Required
  • Comfortable using a computer for long periods of time
  • Ability to concentrate for extended periods of time paying close attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with a team
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time
