Prerequisites

Some course descriptions include named labels for larger lists of possible ways to satisfy prerequisites.

 

Mathematics

Mathematics prerequisites are defined as Non-STEM Math levels and STEM Math levels. All non-course placement measures expire 3 years from completion. 

 

 

Non-STEM Math Levels

Requirements

Courses that students can be placed into

Non-STEM Math Level 1

Students meet Non-STEM Math Level 1 prerequisite if they have any one of the following:

  • NGAR ≥ 230

  • ALEKS ≥ 7

Non-STEM Math Level 2

Students meet Non-STEM Math Level 2 prerequisite if they have any one of the following:

  • NGAR ≥ 270

  • MAT 050 with C or better

  • Mathematics Proficiency

  • A score of 60 or higher on the Mathematics section of the TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) version 7 or later. (Test score TEAM).

Non-STEM Math Level 3

Students meet Non-STEM Math Level 3 prerequisite if they have any one of the following:

  • NGQA ≥ 262

  • PSATM ≥ 540

  • SATM ≥ 540 (S12)

  • ACT ≥ 22

  • High School GPA ≥ 2.7 (within last 3 years)

  • GED Math ≥ 165

  • HiSet ≥ 15

  • MAT 061 with C or above

  • MAT062 with C or above

  • MAT090 with C or above

Students meet Non-STEM Math Level 4 prerequisite if they have any one of the following:

  • NGQA ≥ 268

  • PSATM ≥ 540

  • SATM ≥ 540 (S12)

  • ACT ≥ 22

  • High School GPA ≥ 2.7 (within last 3 years)

  • GED Math ≥ 165

  • HiSet ≥ 15

  • MAT 061 with C or above

  • MAT062 with C or above

  • MAT090 with C or above

  • MAT094 with C or above

STEM Math Level 1

Students meet STEM Math Level 1 prerequisite if they have any one of the following:

  • NGAR ≥ 250

  • MAT 050 with C or better

  • Mathematics Proficiency

  • T061

  • ALEKS ≥ 14

STEM Math Level 2

Students meet STEM Math Level 2 prerequisite if they have any one of the following:

  • NGQA ≥ 262

  • PSATM ≥ 540

  • SATM ≥ 540 (S12)

  • ACT ≥ 22

  • High School GPA ≥ 2.7 (within last 3 years)

  • GED Math ≥ 165

  • HiSet ≥ 15

  • ALEKS ≥ 30

Students meet STEM Math Level 3 prerequisite if they have any one of the following:

  • PSATM ≥560

For students accepted to NSCC and completed Math Placement prior to Fall 2026, they may also use:
