HON200C Honors Seminar: The Human Genome
This course will consider how the knowledge of the human genome impacts the concept of ourselves, as individuals and of our place in the biological universe. This course will combine the approaches of Philosophy and Biology to explore issues related to genetics, including genetic discrimination, privacy, and confidentiality. The course may also delve into the concepts of race/ethnicity and gender, of DNA-based forensics to identify specific individuals, and the commodification of genes. Students can expect to use philosophical, medical, and scientific concepts as they research a contemporary issue in Genetics. Fulfills open, liberal arts, science and humanities elective
