SRG104 Patient Care in Surgery
This is a comprehenive study of the principles of asepsis and sterile techniques combined with laboratory practice. The role of the circulating nurse is introduced as well as proper transportation, preparation and handling of supplies, preoperative preparation of the skin and types of anesthetics in the operating room. The students study the variety of equipment and materials used and the specific duties and procedures of the technician including the care and safety of the patient. Also included are the care and handling of special equipment, septic case routines and preparation of the surgical specimens. (6 hours of lecture per week) This course satisfies open elective requirement.
