DRG101 Addiction and Society
A sociological interpretation of individuals, groups, and American culture with respect to substance use. The relationship between mental health, physical health, and addiction are examined, along with the types of treatment and intervention strategies offered in both professional and para-professional settings. The role of the community, self-help groups, and the criminal justice system is also introduced. A primary outcome of this course is for students to gain awareness of the prevailing attitudes, definitions, and impacts of addiction in society.
