CHE202 Organic Chemistry 2
This course is a continuation of Organic Chemistry 1. Topics include: aromaticity and aromatic reactions, alcohols/ethers/epoxides/organometallics: nomenclature/structure/reactions/mechanisms/physical properties, carbonyl compounds: nomenclature/structure/reactions/mechanisms/physical properties, acids and acid derivatives: nomenclature/structure/reactions/mechanisms/physical properties, amines: nomenclature/structure/reactions/mechanisms/physical properties, structure and chemistry of macromolecules such as carbohydrates, peptides and proteins, DNA-RNA, and synthetic polymers, and other topics as needed. Laboratory work reinforces lecture concepts, and is intended to give students hands-on experience that will help them understand, appreciate, and apply chemical concepts. Fulfills open, liberal arts, and with CHE201, laboratory science sequence electives. (3 hours of lecture, 3 hours of lab per week)
