FPS168 Introduction to Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting

This on-line lecture based course introduces the students to the many facets of aircraft rescue firefighting. Fire fighters responding to or working as an assigned ARFF (Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighter) must be familiar with specialized tools, techniques and equipment to mitigate aircraft emergencies. Today’s aircraft are larger, carry more fuel and are constructed of aerospace composite materials that present increased hazards to responding personnel. Airports, regardless of size, are economic engines and operational continuity is vital to local and regional success. To support this community sustainability, the ARFF industry has evolved to become the leading specialty in firefighting today. This course will introduce the student to governing organizations that set standards and recommendations for aircraft rescue firefighting and their historical positive influence on the aviation industry. Overall, this course will teach the student to become familiar with ARFF pre-planning, controlling and extinguishing aircraft fires, aircraft rescue and evacuation.
