MAT146 Math for Elementary Teachers: Data Analysis, Geometry and Measurement

This course is designed for prospective elementary school teachers. This course develops an understanding of the mathematical concepts of geometric figures and solids, congruence, similarity, constructions, measurement, geometric transformations, and descriptive statistics. This course is intended to provide students with an understanding and appreciation for learning and teaching mathematics as described in the NCTM Standards for School Mathematics. This course includes an exposure to relevant technology, calculators, and computers and how these can effectively be used in the instruction of mathematics to enhance the understanding and visualization of mathematics. Fulfills liberal arts, math, and open electives.

Prerequisite

Communications Proficiency or PSAT Evidence based Reading and Writing of 550 or above (taken in 2016 or later), or, SAT Evidenced based Reading and Writing of 550 or above (taken in 2016 or later), or ACT English of 22 or above and Mathematics Proficiency and CEAR 54 or above, or NGQA 268 or above, or PSAT Math 540 or higher or SATM 510 or above (if taken prior to 2016) or SATM 540 or above or ACT 22 or above or High School GPA 2.7 or above or MAT 110 or MAT 002 or MAT 061 or MAT 003 or MAT 062 or MAT 094 with a C or better or Math Module 8 or above.
